Chhole Masala is one of the most popular and delicious protein pack dish in India especially in northern area which easily goes with Bhature, chapati, Kulcha, poori, naan or rice.

This spicy and yummy curry is prepared from chickpeas, tomatoes, onion, ginger-garlic paste, peanut powder, cream and some Indian spices. Peanut powder gives a authentic and unique taste.

I learn this recipe from my cousin who lives in delhi. I made this dish on her way however the taste may slightly different to my way.

Today Mydaawat is sharing an easy Chhole Masala Recipe with step by step pictures which helps to make it easier.

Ingredients

1 cup soaked chhole(soak at least 6-7 hours).
1 cup finely chopped onion.
2 finely chopped green chili.
1 tsp ginger-garlic paste.
1/2 cup tomato puree.
3-4 cloves(laung).
2 cardamoms.
1 bay leaf.
1 whole red chili.
A pinch of asafoetida(hing).
2 tsp chhole masala powder.
1 tsp garam masala powder.
1 tsp coriander powder.
1 tsp red chilli powder.
1/2 tsp turmeric powder.
1 tsp cumin seeds.
3 tsp peanut powder.
2 tsp cream.
2 tbsp oil or ghee.
Required salt to your taste.

How to Cook Chhole Masala

1.Firstly take the soaked chhole chana or chickpeas in a pressure cooker by adding salt, cloves and cardamom.

2.Secondly add 2 cups of water and cook the chhole chana until soft or up to 5 whistle on medium flame.

3.Now heat oil in a pan on medium flame. Once hot then add whole red chili, bay leaf and cumin seeds.

4.After crackled add chopped onion and fry until golden brown.

5.Add chopped green chili and ginger-garlic paste, Saute for a minute.

6.When it sauted then add tomato puree and cook for 4-5 minutes on medium flame.

7.If oil start to leave on sides then add chhole masala powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida, peanut powder and cream. Saute for 2 minutes.

8.Next step to adding pressure cooked chhole chana.

9.Mix well and cook for a minute.

10.Add 1 cup of water and salt, Cook for 4-5 minues on medium-high flame.

11.Now add garam masala powder, Cook for few seconds and off the flame.

12.Serve hot and yummy Masala Chhole with bhature or chapati or paratha.
